Gary Dykes waits in his mostly empty south Fort Worth apartment on Monday, December 28, 2020, to see if a constable will arrive at his door with a writ of possession. Dykes had received a final notice of eviction due to nonpayment of rent, but was hoping that the CDC declaration form he turned into his apartment management office a few days before would allow him to remain. In September the CDC ordered a temporary halt in residential evictions during the pandemic to stop the spread of COVID-19.
